Jose Aliaga, a distinguished member of the Independence Township Board of Trustees, has been twice elected to serve his community with dedication and vision. First elected in 2012, Mr. Aliaga has been instrumental in improving the efficiency of township services and driving economic growth by attracting new businesses. He made history as the first Hispanic immigrant to hold elected office in Oakland County.
Upon his arrival in America, Mr. Aliaga faced the significant challenge of learning English while pursuing higher education. His resolute determination and commitment were demonstrated through earning two associate degrees from Oakland Community College, and a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Political Science from the esteemed University of Michigan.
In 2022, Jose Aliaga achieved a historic milestone by being elected Supervisor in a landslide victory, becoming the first Latino immigrant ever to hold this esteemed position. His journey from immigrant to Supervisor highlights his unwavering dedication to public service and his profound impact on the community.
