For over 12 years, Jose Aliaga has served the Independence Township community with dedication and distinction as an elected member of the Board of Trustees. Since his first term in 2012, he has been instrumental in supporting, promoting, and enhancing township services, fostering economic growth, and attracting new businesses to the area. His exceptional contributions were recognized in the 2016 and 2020 elections, where he was honored as the #1 voted Trustee.

In 2022, Jose Aliaga achieved a historic milestone as the first Latino immigrant ever elected as Township Supervisor in Oakland County, Michigan. This groundbreaking accomplishment underscores his embodiment of opportunity and success.

Additionally, as the host of the cable TV program “The Jose Aliaga Show,” he has played a vital role in reporting on important community issues and interviewing key figures who have made significant impacts in the region.

When Mr. Jose Aliaga arrived in America, he faced the challenge of learning English while pursuing higher education. Through dedication and hard work, he mastered the language and earned two associate degrees from Oakland Community College, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan.

During his pursuit of a Master’s Degree, Mr. Aliaga also hosted "The Jose Aliaga Show" on Comcast Cable TV. His show highlighted community events and featured interviews with local business leaders, focusing on social and economic changes within the viewing area.

In 2023, Mr. Aliaga completed his law degree at Universidad Las Américas in Peru and is now a registered lawyer with the Lima Bar Association. His commitment to both his professional and academic pursuits exemplifies his dedication to continuous learning and community engagement
