José Aliaga is a distinguished public servant and accomplished professional renowned for his extensive expertise in local governance, strategic management, and community development. With over a decade of dedicated service as an elected member of the Independence Township Board of Trustees and as the first Latino immigrant Township Supervisor in Oakland County’s history, José has consistently demonstrated his commitment to enhancing community services and fostering economic growth.
José holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, two Associate Degrees from Oakland Community College, and a Master’s Degree in Social Science. His academic journey recently culminated with a Law Degree from Universidad Las Américas in Peru, further augmenting his proficiency in legal and regulatory affairs.
Throughout his career, José has served in pivotal roles such as Township Supervisor and Claims Specialist, where his leadership has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Civic Medal of the Law from the Lima Bar Association and honorary titles from various universities.
In addition to his public service accomplishments, José has actively contributed to political and economic discourse through his role as the host of "The José Aliaga Show" on Comcast Cable TV. On his show, he engages with local business leaders and community figures to address critical regional issues and drive meaningful dialogue.

2006: Declared a "Very Important Friend of Cusco" by the Cusco State Government in recognition of his efforts in fostering strong ties between Cusco and Michigan.
2007: Honored by the Universidad Andina del Cusco for his significant contributions to promoting friendship with Michigan, highlighted during his keynote address at their Magistral Conference.
2009: Received accolades from the Canada House of Commons through Parliament Member Paul Calandra for his role in strengthening economic and diplomatic relations between Peru and Canada.
2009: Recognized as a Distinguished Guest by Huancayo County, Peru, for his impactful contributions.
2009: Awarded the International Business Concept Champion title for his "Moving on Up" video at a pitch contest hosted by the University of Michigan.
2010: Bestowed with the title of Honorary Professor by Continental University Peru, acknowledging his efforts in promoting international relations and facilitating educational agreements between American and Peruvian institutions.
2010: Awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Education by the National University of Education, Enrique Guzman & Valle, in recognition of The Aliaga Foundation’s contributions to improving education and healthcare, and promoting international student exchanges.
2010: Named an Honorary Visiting Professor and presented with a medal by Universidad Nacional del Centro del Peru for his contributions to enhancing education in Latin America.
2016: Honored with the Civic Medal of the Law by the Lima Bar Association, recognizing his distinguished professional trajectory and commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
2018: Received the "Medal of the City" Award from the District of San Miguel for his exemplary and impeccable career.
2018: Appointed Membership Chairman of the North Oakland Republican Club.
